GINKGO Workshop 2022

Advancing traits and trade-offs in mechanistic vegetation models across scales
Institute of Plant Science and Microbiology, University Hamburg, Germany, Research Group Ecological Modeling

To what extent are ecophysiological traits and trade-offs, which are included in current process-based dynamic (global) vegetation models, sufficient to predict plant community composition for the next decades?
To address this question we will review the current state of the art regarding the representation of traits and trade-offs, and discuss which factors may still be missing in vegetation models. In particular, we will try to identify vegetation properties which are suitable to extend and improve model validation. With this discussion, we aim to move forward the development of trait-based dynamic vegetation models.
